Etna is not only an active volcano, but it is also an amazing treasure chest of biodiversity thanks to its valuable ecosystems. Areas of woodland and areas covered by resistant vegetation alternate with deserts of volcanic rock that, having surged out of fractures and lateral craters, have created lava caves representing Etna’s hidden underground world. Similar to the higher areas of the volcano, even the lower cultivable zones are rich and unique. Thanks to its soils, rich in minerals, the volcano’s slopes host a variety of different crops, the most famous of these being represented undoubtedly by viticulture. The cultivation of grapes on Etna in relation to its elevation and exposure of its slopes gives rise to grapes of different variety and intense taste, which you will have the chance to try at some of the most typical and renowned vineyards on Etna, accompanied by local products.
