After having spent the morning on Etna and visited its caves and lateral craters, our tour will move onto the Alcantara River, the famous gorge where ancient lava flows, thousands of years old, have changed and totally reshaped the course of the riverbed.
In the following millennia, a slow but unrelenting mix of erosion caused by the water have brought to light the internal structure of the lava flow, composed of incredible basalt columns that make the place a fascinating mix of volcanic rock and freezing water. It is a place where nature in all its glory has witnessed the ancient struggle between fiery rock that rose up from the bowels of the Earth and a river that never gave up its course.
During the summer months it is possible to swim in the energising waters of the river.
