After having visited the west side of Etna, the least touristic and most untouched with its woodlands, craters and lateral caves, we will head down towards the main Sicilian river, the Simeto. During the evolution of the volcano, ancient lava flows radically modified the river’s course which, over the course of millennia, has forced its way through the hard basalt rock creating spectacular canyons, unknown to tourists. The place was used in ancient times as evidenced by the Saraceni Bridge, dating back to the Arab-Norman period.
