The Hyblaean Mountains represent the carsic mountain plateau of southwest Sicily. Erosion, over millions of years, has created an amazing system of canyons and gorges that today constitute an area of outstanding natural value as well as a treasure chest of biodiversity. The numerous streams that flow down from the Cave, as they are known locally, create natural swimming pools filled with energising waters where it is possible to swim during the tour!
On this tour you’ll have the chance to visit the nature reserve of Pantalica, which with around 5,000 tombs carved into the vertical rock faces of the canyon represents the largest prehistoric necropolis in Europe, as well as being a symbol of Sicilian prehistory. It is a place where nature, history and archaeology fuse together in a unique and harmonious natural setting, capable of enchanting whoever is lucky enough to visit.
